Risk of Diet Pills & Supplements
The
omnipresent promise claimed by all those supplements for weight loss is that
you are going to lose weight in the blink of an eye. Still, it is important to
be aware of the risks involving your health. In the following lines we will
analyze a few of the most important
ingredients that usually enter the composition of a weight loss pill and which
are dangerous for your health.
Those
so-called over-the-counter (or OTC) pills which are said to help you lose
weight seem to be among the most sought after diet supplements available.
Nobody actually knows what should be the right dosage when using those weight
loss pills because most of them are not even tested or approved by the FDA.
There is a large quantity of substances resembling amphetamines which compose
these weight loss supplements and these substances are known to cause serious
damages to your health, including death.
Weight
loss supplements are likely to provoke permanent heart damages. These drugs are
meant to boost your metabolism, but in the process they may become harmful for
a fragile heart. Nobody who has had heart problems should ingest such weight
loss supplements because only one pill could be lethal.
The
producers of these weight loss pills always try to come up with improved
products whose aim is to convince the brain to give a boost to metabolism, curb
cravings or inhibit appetite. Although there is no evidence which should prove
the efficiency of these weight loss supplements, this kind of pills are manufactured
to be even more powerful. Some important component found in the most sought
after weight loss pills is ephedra sinica or “ma huang” in Chinese and it is a
shrub that grows cones. Ingestion of this ingredient is known to have caused
strokes, heart attacks, seizures and even death. In 1997, the FDA warned the
weight loss pill manufacturers to stop misleading people and to write the truth
on the labels of their products. The FDA intends to come up with a regulation
through which the US government should be able to force all the producers of
weight loss pills containing ephedra sinica to write about the dangerous effect
this plant may have on health.
The
existing side effects given by the OTC pills derive from the wrong combination
of chemical ingredients which constitute the final product. These weight loss
supplements usually contain wrong dosage instructions which make them become
even more threatening for the user’s health. Among the side effects that can be
triggered by these weight loss pills, mention should be made of high blood
pressure, vertigo, fast heartbeats, nervousness, heart failure and kidney
damage. The side effects caused by those weight loss pills that “convince” the
brain to inhibit appetite are as follows: fever, depression, hair loss, heart
damage and chest pain.
Before
taking any of these weight loss supplements, visit your doctor and ask for his
opinion on these drugs. If you did not lose weight after regular physical
exercise combined with a dieting program, then you should ask your physician to
perform a thorough check on you to see if there are health problems that could
cause your weight problem. The doctor should know everything about any health
problems that you might have, the weight loss diets you have undergone and the weight
loss pills you have ingested. Make sure all your internal organs are checked
up. You might be advised to try a few alternatives to the program which is most
suitable for you to lose weight. If these alternatives include weight loss
pills, make sure to be aware of all possible side effects.
Unfortunately,
most weight loss supplements will do you more harm instead of being helpful.
The best way to lose weight in a healthy manner is to eat nourishing food,
exercise regularly and avoid those weight loss supplements. Do not hurry to
ingest just about anything in order to lose some weight because you might get
to regret it.
